Construction has officially begun on the Cincinnati Downtown Marriott, a 700-room convention headquarters hotel designed to strengthen Cincinnati‘s appeal for large-scale meetings, conventions and citywide events.

Scheduled to open in late 2028, the 21-story property will be directly connected by a skybridge to the reimagined convention center, giving attendees easy access between accommodations and event space while expanding the city’s convention capacity.

The new Marriott will feature:

  • 700 guest rooms
  • 60,000 sf of meeting space
  • A 17,000-sf outdoor events terrace
  • Multiple ballrooms and breakout rooms
  • Ground-floor retail
  • A direct skybridge connection to the convention center

The property is expected to complete Cincinnati’s reimagined Convention District, adding the room inventory and meeting space planners have long sought for larger citywide events.

“This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for Cincinnati’s meetings industry,” said Julie Kirkpatrick, Interim President and CEO of Visit Cincy, in a press statement. “The connected headquarters hotel completes the convention package meeting planners have told us they need and strengthens our ability to compete for larger national conventions and citywide events. Together, the hotel, First Financial Center and surrounding district will create a more connected experience for planners and attendees from arrival through departure.”

Building on Convention District Investments

The hotel follows the recent transformation of Cincinnati’s convention infrastructure, including the $264 million renovation of the convention center and the opening of the reimagined First Financial Center earlier this year.

The upgraded facility includes 200,000 sf of contiguous exhibit space, two ballrooms, 30 breakout rooms, new outdoor event areas and updated technology. Adjacent to the center, Elm Street Plaza adds 2.5 acres of flexible outdoor gathering space.

Once complete, the headquarters hotel, convention center and surrounding district will provide meeting planners with an integrated downtown convention package capable of accommodating larger events while placing attendees within walking distance of restaurants, entertainment venues and cultural attractions.
