JetBlue has launched daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) in Barranquilla, Colombia, adding another option for travel between South Florida and Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

Barranquilla joins Medellin and Cartagena in JetBlue’s Colombia network, with service to Cali scheduled to begin later this month. The additions will bring the airline’s Colombia network to four destinations, while further expanding Fort Lauderdale’s role as a gateway between the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Fort Lauderdale continues to grow as an important connecting gateway for JetBlue,” said Daniel Shurz, Senior VP of JetBlue’s Revenue, Network and Enterprise Planning, in a statement. “This new service builds on our long history of serving Colombia while giving customers traveling to visit family and friends, for business or leisure the competitive fares and award-winning experience they expect from JetBlue.”

Located on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, Barranquilla is a major business and cultural center and is known internationally for Carnaval de Barranquilla. The new nonstop service also provides South Florida travelers with access to the city and surrounding region, while passengers from Barranquilla can connect through Fort Lauderdale to destinations throughout JetBlue’s network.

Flights operate daily on Airbus A320 aircraft, with JetBlue’s Main cabin offering free Fly-Fi, seatback entertainment with live TV, snacks and drinks. EvenMore customers receive additional legroom, priority security where available, early boarding and dedicated overhead bin space.

More Incentive for South America Programs

For the launch, JetBlue is offering limited one-way fares from $134 in Main and $234 in EvenMore, available through JetBlue.com.

The new Barranquilla service comes as airlines continue to expand connections between the U.S. and South America. Frontier Airlines, for example, recently announced several new routes to South America.

For meeting and incentive planners, the additional service can mean more routing options and greater flexibility when planning programs in Colombia and elsewhere in South America.

JetBlue Supports Earthquake Relief in Colombia

JetBlue also recently partnered with All Hands & Hearts and Americares on earthquake relief efforts in Colombia. The airline helped transport relief workers and critical supplies to Medellin through All Hands & Hearts and is supporting Americares’ ongoing response efforts.

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Aug. 10, the strongest originating in the Andean nation since at least 1990, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
