Frontier Enters South America as Spirit Exits

Frontier Airlines is heading to South America for the first time, with three new nonstop routes connecting Orlando to Colombia beginning in December.

The airline will launch service from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Bogota (BOG), Cartagena (CTG) and Medellin (MDE), expanding Frontier’s international network while giving Central Florida travelers new options for reaching Colombia.

Frontier already serves destinations across Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, but the Colombia routes represent the airline’s first service to South America.

The new routes also come as Frontier moves into markets left behind by Spirit Airlines, which ceased operations in November 2025. All three Orlando-Colombia routes were previously operated by Spirit.

“This is an exciting day for Frontier and for travelers as we announce our first-ever service to South America,” said Tyri Squyres, Frontier’s VP of Public and Consumer Affairs. “We believe there is strong, unmet demand for low-cost travel between Orlando and Colombia, and we look forward to offering affordable flight options between these two magnificent destinations.”

The expansion comes as Frontier continues to reshape its product and network. The airline recently introduced UpFront Plus, an upgraded seating option in the first two rows that provides additional leg and elbow room, along with a guaranteed empty middle seat. However, First Class seats are being introduced throughout 2026 and will gradually replace UpFront Plus seats as they become available.

At Orlando International, the new routes add to the airport’s growing connectivity with Colombia.

“We are pleased to support Frontier’s continued growth at Orlando International Airport with the launch of its new nonstop service to Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena,” said Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which manages Orlando International Airport. “Expanding airline options on these routes gives travelers more choice, strengthens our connectivity with Colombia, and reflects the strong demand for affordable international travel between Central Florida and South America.”

Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena also offer different advantages for business travelers and meeting groups. Bogota, Colombia’s capital and financial center, is home to the country’s largest concentration of multinational companies and business meetings. Medellin has emerged as a hub for technology, design and innovation, making it a draw for corporate gatherings. Meanwhile, Cartagena combines a historic setting and coastal location with facilities suited to large conventions, giving groups the opportunity to combine business with leisure.

Introductory fares for the new service start at $99. Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. ET Sept. 16, 2026, for select nonstop travel dates from Jan. 14 through April 5, 2027. Blackout dates and other restrictions apply.
