In addition to Canada’s favorable foreign exchange rate, Business Events Montréal offers some additional perks for group business.

Despite a rise in political tensions between the U.S. and its neighbor to the north, Canada is more than willing and able to accommodate U.S. group business, be it an upscale incentive, a citywide convention, or something in between.

Like other Canadian cities, Montreal offers a favorable U.S. dollar-to-Canadian-dollar exchange rate and a rebate of up to 100% of taxes on conference-related expenses. But the city, through Business Events Montréal, doesn’t stop there in its work to bring more meetings to town. Among the incentives and ongoing promotions it offers are:

• An extra commission on top of your hotel commission. Planners who meet the criteria can get up to 3% on top of the hotel commission they already earn when they bring their meetings to Montréal. To get the deal, the planner must be considering at least one other destination and enter its RFP through Business Events Montréal. The event, which must take place before Dec. 31, 2030 and be confirmed by Dec. 31, 2026, also must include a minimum of room nights and be new group business that takes place on the island of Montréal; rescheduled groups are excluded from consideration.

• A room night rebate. Worth up to $10 CAD per room night, this promotion also is for group business confirmed by Dec. 31, 2026 that takes place by Dec. 31, 2030, and the RFP must be submitted through Business Events Montréal. The event must also include a minimum of 200 room nights on the island of Montreal, and is subject to availability.

• A sustainability incentive. This one is available to groups that hold their events at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, which has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge as part of its GreenStep Sustainable Tourism Pathway. To be eligible, groups must commit to taking sustainable development actions during their events, submit their RFP through Business Events Montréal, and take place by Dec. 31, 2030 (the event also must be booked before Dec. 31, 2026). The incentives are paid upon completion of the event and after the group presents supporting documentation of its sustainability efforts.

Even without extra incentives, Montreal is a popular destination for U.S.-based groups for its ease of access — the downtown is just minutes from the airport, which services direct flights from more than 160 cities globally — as well as its wide range of accommodations, with more than 16,000 guest rooms in walking distance from the Palais and more than 4,00 guest rooms directly liked to the center.

As the sustainability incentive suggests, sustainability also is at the forefront in Montreal, which was the first Canadian city to join the Global Destination Sustainability Index.
