VisitMalta’s Incentives & Meetings North America Roadshow made a recent stop in Washington, D.C., where Prevue got a deeper look at what’s new—and enduring—about meetings and incentives in the Maltese Islands, an archipelago south of Sicily.
For Dario Guljelmovic , GM of Special Interest Travel Malta, the destination’s greatest strength lies in its density of experiences.
“It’s a very small island in the middle of the Mediterranean, but it has so many things to offer,” he said, noting that globally recognized brands sit comfortably alongside a rich local culture.
Guljelmovic went on to explain that Malta’s compact footprint allows groups to move easily between venues, historic sites and culinary experiences, including seven Michelin-starred restaurants and more than two dozen Michelin-recommended establishments, not to mention five convention centers.

Its position within the European Union, widespread use of English and reputation for safety further simplify planning for U.S. groups. A new direct flight from New York launching in June is expected to significantly boost accessibility.
Beyond infrastructure, Malta’s appeal is deeply experiential. Alaine Ciantar, director of VisitMalta Incentives & Meetings, emphasized the islands’ remarkable depth of history and variety. From ancient archaeological sites—some older than Stonehenge—to lively weekly markets and traditional fishing villages, Malta offers layers of discovery. With multiple islands to explore, including the laid-back Gozo and the rugged, sparsely populated Comino, itineraries can range from cultural immersion to outdoor adventure.
Ciantar also pointed to the rise of highly customized, on-the-water experiences. One standout concept is an interactive “floating bar,” where groups can anchor for the day and enjoy chef-driven food and premium drinks while participating in cocktail-making.
“We tie up our boats to yours and crank up the volume,” she said.
Originally developed during the pandemic as an alternative to land-based events, the floating bar concept has evolved into a distinctive offering for corporate groups seeking something memorable and flexible. Options can range from casual refreshments to high-end pairings such as champagne and oysters, all delivered directly to boats for a seamless, immersive experience.

On land, the balance of business and leisure remains a defining advantage. Gintare Vasiliauskaite, Group Sales Manager of the Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa underscored how seamlessly meetings transition into downtime.
“If you are coming for a business meeting, you have only three days…after your meeting, you jump from your suit to a swimsuit and go into the Mediterranean Sea,” she said. With its seafront location, 301 rooms and 13 meeting spaces, the property exemplifies Malta’s ability to deliver both productivity and escape.
The event also included a deep dive into delectable Maltese cuisine with Giovann Attard, Executive Chef of Aqua Roma; as well as teambuilding-style cocktail making with Eddie Bonello, Founder & CEO of Molecular Fusion.
