Captiva Island is celebrating the re-opening of the iconic, 330-acre South Seas resort complex, complete with new experiences and new amenities. And this is just the beginning, as the rebuilding will continue into next year.
“Hurricane Ian posed significant challenges for our beloved Captiva Island and South Seas, yet we found an opportunity to thoughtfully plan for future rejuvenation and improvement of our amenities and services, while preserving the resort’s distinctive charm and heritage,” said Shawn Farrell, general manager, in a press statement. “While our closure has been challenging for everyone involved, and our rebuilding continues, we aim to further enhance the experiences our guests have cherished for generations. We are continuing to work tirelessly to bring the Captiva magic back to South Seas, and while we finish these next phases of restoration and construction, we cannot wait to share South Seas with guests.”
South Seas is Accepting Reservations
Working with Florida developer and designer Timbers Company, South Seas has worked to restore not only the property’s former glory but also do it with a view toward ensuring the accommodations and amenities will be able to withstand severe weather conditions, which, in the end, also benefits the local community. The resort is, in fact, working closely with Lee County, local homeowners and community groups during this period, taking into account sustainability and conservation as it proceeds. Part of this includes the reconstruction of the South Seas fishing pier, the replacement of invasive plant species with native plants, and the restoration of the Red Fish Pass revetement.
South Seas is accepting reservations beginning mid-month to refurbished beach villas and beach homes facing the Gulf of Mexico, and by late summer, you will be able to book clients in over 50 accommodations that will include marina, beach and tennis villas.
The beach is South Seas crowning glory and offers Captiva’s legendary shelling experiences and picture-perfect sunsets. The full-service Yacht Club Marina is already open, with fishing and boating charters as well as eco-cruises and nature tours. The iconic Bayview Fishing Pier is under reconstruction and will open soon—expect to see a new flurry of Instagram photos when it does.
As the year proceeds, the resort will open a new 12-hole Beau Welling redesigned, family-friendly golf course named The Clutch; and the South Seas Bayview (North Village) Expect the new food trucks to complement the resort’s culinary offer, including the new Redfish Grille. South Seas expects to have all restaurant and pool experiences ready in early 2024.
