As the meetings and incentives industry claws back in a post-COVID-19 world, experts agree that regional meetings will come back first. Here are two options in New York State, a destination that is sometimes easy to overlook with a city as dynamic as Manhattan housed within its confines. From charming villages, wineries, breweries, waterfalls, and history, this is a multi-faceted destination with natural beauty and an outdoor playground that is also a popular meetings destination.

Mohonk Mountain House

The Mohonk Mountain House, the iconic resort in New York’s Hudson Valley, was featured on Showtime’s Billions most recent episode and is a great option for regional meetings. As “Billions” characters descended on Mohonk for an off-site retreat, the signature façade of the hotel exterior, the glacier-formed Lake Mohonk, and the historic Main Dining Room are all prominently featured throughout the episode.

Companies that want to have a corporate retreat or conference à la Billions can do so when the resort reopens on June 15. With more than 40,000 acres of trails and forests, locally sourced culinary experiences, and historic accommodations, the resort provides the ideal environment for both day and overnight corporate retreats. Mohonk features 14 state-of-the-art conference rooms and an expansive slate of nature-based teambuilding activities, including wilderness survival challenges, human ice bowling, and gladiator games.

Emerson Resort & Spa

Emerson Resort & Spa

Inspired by the resort’s location in the Catskill Mountains, as well as its namesake, poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Emerson Resort & Spa is a 20-acre boutique property located adjacent to Esopus Creek. It features 53 rooms and suites; meetings and event space; Woodnotes Grille, its signature restaurant that sources local ingredients from the Hudson Valley; the World’s Records Largest Kaleidoscope; a luxury destination spa; dog-friendly amenities; and more. The fact that it is spread out makes it all the more attractive for regional gatherings.
