American Airlines is expanding its premium footprint at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), where it plans to build the largest Admirals Club in its network.
The more than 40,000-sf lounge will give business travelers passing through American’s second-largest hub more room to work, dine, relax and recharge between flights.
A New Premium Space in the Heart of CLT
Construction is slated to begin this year, with the new Admirals Club planned for the atrium’s mezzanine level. Its central location will give travelers expansive views of the concourse below while creating a dedicated space to escape the airport’s activity.
American says the design will draw on Charlotte’s character, including its tree canopy and textile heritage, while blending modern design with Southern influences.
The lounge will be organized into distinct zones designed around different traveler needs, with spa-style shower suites, bars and serveries, along with areas for dining, working and relaxing.
“Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority,” said American Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden, in a press statement. “We’re incredibly excited to bring our biggest Admirals Club yet to CLT, where millions of customers pass through every year.”
Existing Lounges Stay Open During Construction
Business travelers won’t have to wait for the new facility to open to access American’s existing lounge options at CLT. The Provisions by Admirals Club lounge near Gate A1 and Admirals Club lounges in Concourses B and C/D will remain open throughout construction.
The new lounge builds on American’s broader investment in Charlotte. The airline announced plans last year to expand its lounge footprint at CLT, including the introduction of its first-ever Flagship Lounge.
A Major Hub for Business Travel
Charlotte serves as American’s second-largest hub, with more than 650 peak daily flights connecting travelers to more than 180 destinations in 27 countries. That makes the airport a significant connecting point for business travelers moving throughout the East Coast and beyond.
“The plan for our new lounge at CLT represents our continued investment in the customer experience and reflects our long-standing commitment to Charlotte,” said American Senior VP of CLT Operations Ralph Lopez Massas, in a press statement. “Set to become the largest lounge in our global network at one of our most connected hubs, it will give customers an exceptional space to enjoy while showcasing the unique character of our region.”
