In celebration of Pride Month, Travel Guard, a provider of travel insurance and assistance services, has launched a new initiative designed to support LGBTQ+ travelers with tailored education and resources that promote awareness and preparedness when traveling internationally.

The program is a response to the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ travelers may face abroad—challenges that can range from cultural misunderstandings to serious legal risks. According to Statista, homosexuality remains illegal in 68 countries, while Booking.com reports that nearly 60 percent of LGBTQ+ travelers have experienced some form of discrimination while traveling.

Serving LGBTQ+ Clients

“Travel Guard recognizes the ongoing need for greater understanding and awareness regarding safety for LGBTQ+ travelers and has developed a series of informational resources to empower this community to travel safe and smart,” said Rhonda Sloan, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, in a press statement. “Our LGBTQ+ travel safety initiative recommends security measures and provides advice to help ensure LGBTQ+ individuals can travel proud.”

The initiative is anchored by a newly launched online resource hub, where travel advisors and clients alike can access:

  • Guidance on researching destination-specific risks
  • Best practices for traveling with children
  • Advice for transgender travelers
  • Tips on maintaining documentation and paper trails
  • A regional breakdown of LGBTQ+-related travel concerns
  • A dedicated FAQ section and vetted external resources

Also featured is a video series hosted by Tommy DiDario, Entertainment Correspondent and LGBTQ+ Advocate, offering firsthand insight and practical safety strategies. DiDario is also the host of the podcast, I’ve Never Said This Before.

To develop this guide, Travel Guard partnered with Hospitable Me, an industry leader in inclusive hospitality training whose work is trusted by global travel brands and hotel companies. This collaboration ensures that the content reflects the latest in culturally competent best practices.
