Cruise lines are making a stronger push into the meetings and incentives market, with newer ships, expanded event facilities and flexible group offerings giving planners options beyond traditional hotels and resorts.

What’s driving the appeal? Going beyond the itinerary, cruises simplify the job for meeting and incentive planners by offering all-inclusive convenience and turnkey execution.

Cruise programs combine accommodations, dining, entertainment and meeting space in one venue, streamlining logistics while giving attendees the opportunity to experience multiple destinations during a single event. Meanwhile, with much of the program taking place aboard the ship, planners can reduce the complexity of coordinating transportation, offsite venues and multiple suppliers.

Smooth Sailing for Budgets & Venues

Budget predictability is another factor driving interest. Because many services are bundled into one package, planners and their clients have a clearer picture of costs from the outset, helping offset rising hotel rates, F&B minimums and audiovisual expenses.

Cruise lines have also expanded their range for corporate groups with dedicated meeting venues—including theaters and breakout rooms—as well as onboard technical teams that can reduce the need for outside vendors.

Added to that are wellness facilities, specialty restaurants and outdoor venues that can host everything from general sessions and networking events to executive retreats and incentive celebrations. Many operators also offer customized branding opportunities, private buyouts and full-ship charters for larger groups.

Crystal Grace’s all-suite, all-veranda accommodations have been reimagined with enhanced storage and select suites offering wraparound verandas, a first-ever configuration for Crystal.

At the same time, cruise companies are broadening their appeal. Some continue to emphasize family-friendly programming, making it easier for attendees to bring spouses and children, while others focus exclusively on adults with boutique-style experiences and upscale dining. And while the Caribbean remains a staple destination, itineraries to Alaska, Europe and Asia give planners more options when designing incentive programs.
