Check out Do Some Good, an app that can help amplify your meeting’s positive impact story.

Meet Do Some Good, an online platform and app that makes it easier for meeting and event planners to integrate social good into events, including telling the story of how attendees engage with the community as part of their event experience.

Do Some Good — designed to connect individuals, charitable organizations and purpose-driven organization to make a positive impact in local communities by facilitating volunteering, philanthropy, and storytelling around doing good deeds — comes out of the growing trend toward incorporating some type of community service or charitable activity that supports the meeting organizer’s goals and/or the goals of the profession the meeting serves. This can be anything from donating a portion of the registration fee to a selected cause, hosting a collection drive for a charity or holding an on-site fundraiser, or offering volunteer opportunities linked to local community needs, partnering with nonprofits or advocacy groups that resonate with attendee interests.

Some meeting organizers host community service projects as breakout sessions during conferences, while others may include charity “brain breaks” or wearable merchandise supporting causes.

The goal of weaving social good into the purpose, operations and content of events is to provide a way for attendees to connect with and support local communities, while also enhancing engagement and brand image. While the local destination marketing organization (DMO) can help make those connections between planners and local community-based groups that welcome support, it can be a bit hit or miss, depending on the destination.

Do Some Good is designed to make the process faster and easier by providing a digital hub individuals and organizations can use to find local volunteer opportunities or community initiatives matching their organization’s goals, as well as connect with nonprofits and causes, supporting them through hands-on help or organizing donation campaigns. The platform enables users to track and showcase social impact by logging hours, skills developed and achievements in a shareable “impact resume.” It also is designed to make it easy to share stories, achievements and news to amplify the message of good works across social media.

While it was not built specifically for use in conjunction with meetings, meeting and event and planners can leverage Do Some Good in several ways:

  • Community Engagement Initiatives: Organize group volunteering around business events or gatherings. Attendees can join local projects, assembling teams for charity work or community betterment, building camaraderie and fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
  • Skill Development and Team Building: Use the platform to match event attendees with skills-based volunteer opportunities. This supports professional growth and enhances the event experience through purposeful engagement.
  • Showcasing Impact: Track and communicate the collective impact of attendee involvement in real time — measuring hours donated and funds raised for the cause over the course of the meeting. Meeting organizers also can share these outcomes during or after the event to demonstrate tangible results of their activities to attendees and stakeholders.
  • Partnerships and Sponsorships: Collaborate with “good companies” featured on the platform to sponsor volunteer initiatives, donate resources or provide attendee incentives for participation in impactful activities.
  • Storytelling and PR: Use the platform’s storytelling features to broadcast the event’s charitable projects and successes, increasing positive brand and event publicity both locally and online, using a series of prompts that automate the storytelling process while still providing a compelling story to share on social media and beyond. The platform also can automatically share stories with media, though the organization’s media partnerships currently are Canadian based.
