The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Americas, HSMAI Foundation and HSMAI Global, have announced that President and CEO, Bob Gilbert passed away on Sept. 19, 2024.
In July 2024, the organization announced that Gilbert had accelerated his retirement plan as a result of a serious health issue following 30 years of executive leadership for HSMAI. Gilbert’s tenure extended through such industry-changing events as the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, the 2008 Recession and the Covid-19 Pandemic.
In his final HSMAI Perspective, Gilbert shared, “I am filled with gratitude for the incredible journey and the profound relationships I have built with so many of you. I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished together in expanding the association’s reach and impact across the globe, and the fun we have had along the way. It has truly been a privilege to serve our resilient industry.”
A beloved friend and admired mentor to many in the hospitality industry, Mr. Gilbert will be missed by the industry at large, and the association will benefit from his leadership for many years to come.
HSMAI stressed that to celebrate Bob’s career is to acknowledge his leadership and impact on the hospitality industry. Bob’s passion and commitment have been instrumental in guiding the HSMAI Foundation’s mission to attract, develop, and engage the brightest talents.
In recognition of Bob’s legacy, all donations made to the HSMAI Foundation Century Campaign through Dec. 31, 2024, will be considered in his honor. Contributions will support the Foundation’s continued efforts in education, diversity, and leadership development, embodying Bob’s vision for a stronger hospitality community.
Bob is survived by wife Kim, three children and six grandchildren. HSMAI will share information regarding arrangements when they are complete.
