The InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel has unveiled phase one of a multi-million dollar refresh to its meeting and event spaces.

The iconic Gatsby-era property, located at 505 N. Michigan Ave. on Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile is a one-of-a-kind architectural building on the National Register of Historic Places.

The restoration project by Whitespace Interiors includes several of the hotel’s large historic ballrooms and event pre-function space, and is intended to bridge modern-day meeting aesthetics with the property’s original architectural charm.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to revitalize our beloved property,” said Pete Demay, general manager of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel in a press release statement. “As a historic landmark, we work diligently each and every day to ensure guests enjoy the full experience of the hotel’s legacy. This restoration has enhanced the design of the hotel’s meeting and event space, while maintaining the beautiful qualities of its legendary, original architecture.”

The hotel boasts over 45,000 sf of meeting space and can host up to 1,000 attendees. The largest space is the Grand Ballroom, which features a six-ton Bacarrat crystal chandelier and hand-painted murals that were restored by Lido Lippi, who had previously worked on the restoration of the Sistine Chapel.

The property has two restaurants: the Michael Jordan Steak House, offering modern American cuisine; and ENO, an upscale wine lounge that also serves cheese and chocolate pairings. It also features the oldest swimming pool in Chicago with carefully restored 1920s architecture, hand-painted Spanish tiles, marble pillars, and a hand-carved terra cotta statue of Neptune.
