Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel has completed a more than $60 million transformation that refreshes every aspect of the guest experience while elevating the property’s appeal as a meetings and events destination in the heart of West Philadelphia.
Located steps from the University of Pennsylvania and near major medical institutions, the 332-room hotel now offers upgraded accommodations, redesigned communal spaces and enhanced event capabilities tailored to today’s groups.

The hotel offers more than 11,000 sf of flexible meeting and event space, complemented by updated technology, refined gathering areas and proximity to the University of Pennsylvania campus, its medical complex and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
Guest rooms and suites received top-to-bottom upgrades, including new furnishings, lighting, updated textiles and thoughtfully designed workspaces that cater to today’s business travelers.
Spaces Designed for Connection
The property’s public areas have also been reimagined to support the evolving ways attendees gather and collaborate.

The redesigned lobby now features a library-inspired gathering space with communal seating, while newly introduced meeting pods equipped with integrated A/V technology offer flexible settings for informal discussions, breakout sessions and impromptu work meetings.
A standout addition is the hotel’s new multi-use outdoor terrace, expanding the options available to planners seeking unconventional venues. The space can accommodate outdoor meetings, networking receptions, wellness programming and seasonal events.
“With the completion of this renovation, we’re excited to welcome guests back to a completely refreshed Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel,” said Michael Bennett, General Manager, in a press announcement. “These enhancements reflect our commitment to providing a premium experience for the many travelers who visit the area, from individuals and families drawn by West Philadelphia’s world-class higher-education and healthcare institutions to corporate groups and event attendees.”
Enhanced F&B Offerings
The renovation also introduces &More Café, Sheraton’s dining concept designed to serve as a social hub for both guests and locals. The venue offers morning coffee service and grab-and-go options before transitioning to evening cocktails in a relaxed communal setting.

Funded by the University of Pennsylvania, the renovation reflects ongoing investment in University City’s hospitality infrastructure as the neighborhood continues to attract academic, medical and corporate travel.
“This investment reflects Penn’s commitment to supporting University City’s continued growth,” said Michael D. Scales, VP of the Division of Business Services, in a press announcement. “Modernizing a key asset like the Sheraton enhances the visitor experience and supports ongoing economic activity.”
