Whether your group is interested in wellness, golf or even dining in the dark, the 607-room Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., features a few new perks that groups can now experience.

With the Chopra Center for Wellbeing headquartered on property, Omni La Costa decided to develop the Workplace Wellbeing program for groups. Now, attendees at Omni La Costa have the chance to participate in a set of teachings, customized by Dr. Deepak Chopra, that help in making better lifestyle choices.

“According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health, 75% of healthcare costs are directly related to lifestyle—and are therefore, preventable,” says Lindsey Amador, director of group sales at the property. “These teachings stay with guests forever and hopefully have a lasting effect on their overall wellbeing.”

With that in mind, the curriculum of specialized programs teaches attendees how to implement important aspects of daily wellness into both the workplace and their personal lives. The program is available for groups in 90-minute, half-day, full-day or multiday teachings. The versatile curriculum is available for groups in the following six categories:

  • Inspired Leadership – Allows attendees to unleash the potential for creativity, organizing power and sense of unity.
  • Stress Management – Taps into inner silence and wisdom with breathing and meditation practices.
  • Move & Energize – Features chair yoga teachings that invigorate the body and clear a busy mind.
  • Work-life Balance – Teaches attendees about their unique mind-body types and helps them discover how to alleviate imbalance.
  • Communication – Improves skills for relationship building and conflict resolution at work and home.
  • Nutrition – Helps attendees discover how simple, mindful eating habits affect health, energy and balance.

Because the resort has two golf courses, golf teambuilding is another popular activity for groups staying here. Activities such as speed golf, the soccer hole and shoot with the pro bring even non-golfers into the game for a bonding experience, says Amador. Omni La Costa is also able to incorporate Groove and Zumba dance lessons into breaks and meetings.

“There is no better way to get the blood flowing during a meeting or break than to dance,” says Amador. “Our clients love the ability to get their attendees up on their feet and moving.”

After a long day of meetings in the resort’s 50,000 sf of meeting space, groups can check out the resort’s newly opened Fuego restaurant or soon-to-open BlueFire Bar—both of which offer a laid-back vibe. Fuego offers locally brewed beers, California wines and signature cocktails alongside its menu of California coastal cuisine. BlueFire Bar offers a similar local bent, featuring small bites and handcrafted cocktails on the menu.

Both are fairly small venues so they offer an ideal setting for intimate VIP events, says Amador.  The spaces can also work for private receptions or dinners and can even be used together as a progressive dining experience.

Amador also recommends Dining in the Dark in which the resort’s executive chef serves a wine-pairing dinner while the guests are blindfolded. “This experience is one of a kind and really gets you thinking about flavors, texture and how your senses heighten when one is compromised,” she adds. “We have received unbelievable feedback from this teambuilding experience.”
