The new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is coming to Los Angeles in a few months, and there will be space for private events. May the venue be with you.

Founded by George Lucas of Star Wars fame and his wife, American businesswoman Mellody Hobson, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be the world’s first museum dedicated to visual storytelling and storytellers when it opens on Sept. 22.

The iconic Migrant Mother photo by Dorothea Lange is part of the Lucas Museum collection.

A vast collection will features work by such artists as Frida Kahlo and Maxfield Parrish; comic art legends Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware and Robert Crumb; and photographers Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Dorothea Lange.

The museum also will house the Lucas Archives, containing models, props, concept art and costumes from the writer/director’s storied filmmaking career.

Space for Groups

Beyond its cultural significance, the museum is poised to become one of Southern California’s most distinctive new venues for meetings, galas, corporate events, receptions, screenings and executive gatherings.

Located on an 11-acre campus in Exposition Park near Downtown Los Angeles and sitting  alongside major attractions, the museum’s design is by internationally acclaimed architect Ma Yansong.

A plus for planners and groups: the 5-story structure will offer a collection of event spaces unlike anything currently available in the market, including:

Frank Frazetta’s 1980 Mothman.
  • A soaring 10,000-square-foot North Lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows and direct access to galleries, theaters, and dining venues
  • Two state-of-the-art theaters designed for screenings, keynote presentations, and panel discussions
  • A dedicated 10,000-square-foot event space featuring panoramic Los Angeles skyline views and built-in presentation technology for galas, dinners, and corporate programs
  • The Sky Garden, a circular rooftop observation deck offering 360-degree views from Downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean, ideal for sunset receptions and networking events
  •  Intimate venues including the Research Library and Rain Fountain, providing memorable settings for executive meetings, VIP dinners, media events, and leadership gatherings

A differentiator for planners is the opportunity to pair events with private access to museum experiences, allowing attendees to explore exhibitions dedicated to the history and impact of narrative art.

With projections of more than 1.5 million annual visitors, the Lucas Museum is expected to become one of the most sought-after cultural venues in the country and a significant addition to Los Angeles’ meetings and events landscape.
