ASAE is adding Community Pop-Ups as part of its Conscious Inclusion efforts to bring together under-represented communities during its Annual Meeting In August.

ASAE, the American Society for Association Executives, is adding Community Pop-Ups to the schedule for its Annual Meeting, coming to Nashville August 20–23. The Community Pop-Ups, part of ASAE’s Conscious Inclusion efforts, are designed to give members of under-represented communities who have been meeting virtually over the course of the pandemic a place and time to meet face to face.

The Community Pop-Ups, which will be held Saturday, August 20 in a dedicated meeting room, will be one-hour networking sessions specifically for members of these communities. Among the communities that ASAE is giving Community Pop-Up opportunities to are association professionals representing the African American, Asian and Latino communities. There is another Community Pop-Up specifically for Black CEOs.

ASAE also will continue to hold space in its programming for other specific sub-groups of its membership, including an invitation-only Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP) breakfast; a global “Good Morning! International Meet and Greet” and global community reception for its non-U.S.-based members; a session for its Key Professional Associations Committee (KPAC); and a member reception for the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives.

In addition, ASAE is continuing its long-time support of LGBTQ+ members with the 19th Annual LGBTQ+ event, held following ASAE Research Foundation’s The Classic fundraiser at the Wildhorse Saloon. Donations from the invitation-only LGBTQ+ event will be split between the IGLTA Foundation and the ASAE Research Foundation.

While the idea of holding specific networking events for various segments of membership tends to be top of mind for many associations, this also is an idea that could help build community and relationships among subsets of participants for any type of meeting or event.
