Elite Catering + Event Professionals announce top culinary trends for 2026.

Culinary artistry has become a key component of successful meetings and events, bringing together multiple generations of attendees to break bread together. What food trends are resonating in 2026? Meeting recently for their 2026 Symposium, Elite Catering + Event Professionals (ECEP) compiled a culinary trends report with predictions for the year ahead. Here are the top insights on popular and trending food experiences at group events:

• Bespoke menus and branded bites. Food items are being custom crafted to reflect event sponsors and corporate identity. Passed hors d’oeuvres are no longer just a fleeting bite—they’re becoming conversation starters with graphic tray presentations that reference a story, an ingredient or a cultural influence. This invites attendees to pause, read and reflect on the food before taking a bite.

• Swavory: blending of sweet and savory. A new culinary term has emerged on social media. Swavory is the fusion of sweet and savory, usually with butter as a lead ingredient. Think butter flights, butter eggs and  layered butter herb cookies. Or ice cream like vanilla soft serve dipped in melted salted butter, creating a crisp shell finished with a sprinkle of sea salt.

• Classic flavors, modern techniques. A renewed appreciation for classical cuisine with modern flair is taking hold. Theatrical tableside cooking, traditional sauces, precise methods and disciplined culinary techniques are once again at the forefront. These are being integrated with contemporary elements such  as liquid nitrogen and modern food presentation.

• Luxury ingredients. Last year, caviar appeared on nearly every menu and in a variety of ways. This year, the appetite for caviar shows no signs of slowing, with a widening trend for other luxury culinary experiences as well. Defined by quality rather than excess, trending items include shaved truffles, Wagyu beef, otoro tuna and other elevated fish and seafood experiences.

• Culinary Storytelling. The menu is about more than food these days. Particularly at corporate meetings and events, food is communicating narratives with cultural significance, aligning with the event destination and with company values. Indigenous cuisine is one expression of this emerging trend, reflecting authentic storytelling through ingredients, presentation techniques and culinary traditions.

• Popular culture comes to dinner. Every since Andy Warhol. transformed the everyday Campbell’s Soup Can into iconic art, the relationship between popular culture and cuisine has invited artistic reinterpretation. Today, that influence is showing up on the plate, creating food experiences that feel both nostalgic and unexpected.
