A new year means new resolutions and too-often a new fitness trend or diet to consider.

Groaning aside, meeting planners and attendees often find that life on the road can make it difficult to get in a sufficient workout or find access to healthy foods. But that doesn’t have to be the case. California’s Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau released a list of ways to stay healthy while meeting by the sea. Here are three to work into your next meeting in Monterey and beyond.

Sample, Sample, Sample

When traveling, it’s easy to want to try every cuisine that the destination highlights. Instead, try sampling different dishes. In Monterey, you can grab samples of clam chowder from the restaurants along Old Fisherman’s Wharf instead of chowing down on an entire bowl. Same goes for planning event menus; opt to give attendees a “taste” of the destination.

Eat Fresh & Local

One of the best ways to maintain a nutritious diet is by eating local and planning group events at restaurants that support local farmers and artisan vendors. In Monterey, that could include an offsite to the Old Monterey Farmers Market or Wharf Place, just a couple blocks from the Monterey Conference Center, where locally sourced produce is plentiful.

Don’t Forget to Move

Lunch breaks and time in-between sessions are the perfect times to get in some exercise. A quick 15-minute stroll along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail will leave you feeling rejuvenated. Bike rentals are also available within steps of Portola Plaza Hotel & Spa.
