Fun in the Mexican Caribbean is its own reward with an incentive at Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa.
With the superabundance of all-inclusive resorts lining Cancun’s famed Hotel Zone, it can get tricky to differentiate one from the other when it comes to planning an incentive program. Prevue had a chance to visit Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa recently, where we got a first-hand peek at what sets this particular hotspot apart from the crowd.
For starters: “Our location is unbeatable,” says Iliana Perez, Marketing Manager for Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa—and she assures us, that’s just one of a long list of attributes that should put this resort square on the list of any meeting planner. “We’re right between the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte Lagoon,” adds Perez, “and our beach has a double natural reef barrier, which means the water stays calm and clear with almost no sargassum. We’re also the only resort in the area with two panoramic towers. From the top, you can see the entire lagoon on one side and the Caribbean on the other.” Another plus? It’s literally 20 minutes from the Cancun International Airport—and we all know less drive time means happier attendees.
Chic Retreat
We arrived mid-afternoon at the resort. At first blush, it seems somewhat smaller than the usual sprawling resorts that are so typical of the area because, unlike most properties, this is a high-rise hotel. What it lacks in sprawl it makes up with ingenuity—it hides three distinct rooftop pools and a plethora of outdoor terraces that double as event venues with a view.
Once you exit the port cochere-level elevator and walk out into the lobby, you’ll find yourself in an ample light-filled space, dotted with a stunning collection of massive Huichol sculptures and artwork created with tiny glass beads, part of the Menchaca Studio collection and a fantastic way to give your attendees a closer look at one of the area’s most fascinating cultures. “We’re very modern, but infused with a sense of place,” says Perez. “You’ll find colorful, handcrafted touches throughout the resort. We also host artists who create live paintings during events. It’s a unique combination of art, music and community.”
Check-in was at the Xhale Club, a must for your VIP attendees, with its card-only access, premium bar and all-day rotating menu of tasty snacks. You’ll want to know about the resort’s Concierge Services, also on-hand to provide your C-Suite with everything they might need, from reservations at the relax Spa or the teppanyaki experience to offsite tours via Amstar DMC.
Our room, an Xhale Club Master Suite Oceanfront King, had a balcony that spanned the living area and the king bedroom, not one, but two jetted tubs, a walk-in closet, a well-thought-out work area, a hanging wicker chair and a stunning view that swept from the lagoon all the way to the protected bay. Breathless boasts 429 junior suites, and “all have private terraces and about 90 percent have ocean views. Because our design is vertical, most guests are guaranteed incredible views. Each tower feels like its own space, but they’re connected through a shared lobby, so the atmosphere flows naturally.”
Lifestyle Programs
According to Perez, within Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection brand portfolio, Breathless Cancun Soul is known as a “lifestyle” concept that translates directly into the type of programs you can offer groups. “What defines us most is our social energy. Everything here is designed for people to connect, whether they’re at the pool, the restaurants or the rooftop. It’s a modern, elevated atmosphere, but always relaxed and social.”
That being said, it’s no surprise Perez shares that groups are one of the resort’s strengths—along with another surprising component. “We have a full convention center with a ballroom that can be divided into four sections, plus breakout rooms. The space includes a stage, built-in audiovisual systems and its own kitchen, which means we don’t have to bring food from other areas. And we can customize everything—from private concerts and themed dinners to rooftop cocktail parties at sunset.
“We love mixing fun and creativity. We’ve done pool volleyball tournaments, live art sessions, acrobatic shows, fire performances—things that make people interact and laugh together. Wellness is also part of our culture; we organize spa events or group sessions like seaside yoga. Our spa suite can host up to eight guests at a time, perfect for small celebrations or relaxation after meetings,” she says.
Of note is the fact groups can buy out an entire tower for privacy, giving planners the ability to add company signage, etc. The sweet spot? Groups between 250 to 300 attendees.
Dine Around On-Site
With 10 dining venues plus 24-hr room service and the Xhale Club, there’s never a shortage of delicious nosh. We enjoyed a fun teppanyaki experience (reservations required there and at the Bluewater Grill (steakhouse) and two of the tastiest carpaccio starters I’ve ever had: beef at Spumante gourmet Italian restaurant and a beetroot one at Coquette, the French specialty restaurant. Breakfast a la carte at Silk City—only open for Xhale Club members at that hour—came with a side of lagoon views and breakfast at the Spoon buffet was fresh, varied and enjoyed outdoors with an ocean view.
